Building a Personalized Photography Marketplace for Rome Travelers

Photoshoot Rome Interface

As a co-founder and lead designer, I conceived, designed, and launched Photoshoot Rome to solve a problem I experienced firsthand: tourists struggling to capture professional-quality memories of their travels. The challenge was creating a platform that felt as magical as Rome itself while streamlining a complex booking process.

The gap in personalized travel photography

Rome attracts millions of tourists yearly, yet visitors faced a frustrating choice: settle for amateur smartphone photos or navigate generic photography services with unclear pricing and zero customization. The existing market treated every customer the same, ignoring the fact that each traveler had unique stories to tell.

This is where Photoshoot Rome saw an opportunity: creating a platform that offered curated, personalized photography experiences tailored to each visitor's vision, budget, and Roman itinerary. We transformed impersonal transactions into memorable, customized experiences that truly captured the magic of each individual's Roman journey.

From research to wireframes

User research revealed key pain points: tourists struggled with unclear pricing and generic photography options that didn't capture Rome's unique character. I began mapping a user journey that prioritized personalization and transparency over speed.

The wireframing process focused on creating a guided experience that gathers detailed preferences to deliver highly customized photography sessions. Rather than minimizing clicks, we designed an intelligent flow that asks the right questions: Preferred locations, style, group size, special occasions in order to match tourists with the perfect photographer. The wireframes established a progressive disclosure pattern: starting with inspiring visuals, then gradually diving deeper into customization options. This foundation ensured the final interface would deliver truly personalized Rome photography experiences.

Building the brand identity

The visual identity captures Rome's warmth and romance while maintaining modern professionalism. The vibrant "Folly" coral primary color evokes golden hour light, while neutral grays and blacks provide sophisticated contrast that keeps photographer portfolios and Rome's locations as the visual focus.

This curated palette feels both premium and approachable, reinforcing our brand promise: professional photography that captures Rome's romance while making the booking experience as beautiful as the city itself.

Designing key interface elements

Creating effective interface components that communicate trust and guide users through the personalized booking experience. Each element addresses specific user needs: clear step indicators simplify complex flows, social proof builds confidence, and service highlights emphasize convenience and accessibility.

These components work together to reduce booking anxiety while maintaining the warm, romantic feel that makes Photoshoot Rome distinctly Roman. The visual language ensures users feel confident and excited about their photography experience from first visit to final booking.

The final experience

The homepage establishes our brand promise immediately: professional photography that captures authentic Roman moments. The design balances inspiration with functionality, allowing users to discover photography options while maintaining clear paths to booking.

The booking flow represents our core differentiator: an extensively personalized process that gathers detailed preferences to create truly customized experiences. Rather than rushing users to checkout, we guide them through thoughtful questions about locations, styles, group dynamics, and special occasions, building excitement while ensuring perfect photographer matches.
